Maiko Miyagawa was born in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan. She received a Bachelor of Arts in photography from the Nihon University College of Art. After spending some time as a still photographer on movie sets, Maiko entered an apprenticeship under renowned stage photographer, Hidemi Seto. Chieko Kojima, a distinguished member of the taiko performing arts ensemble Kodo, has recently created a new piece based on the story of Anchin and Kiyohime from the Dojoji Tales. This work then inspired a book of images entitled "Kasane no Kiyohime Monogatari: The Myriad Layers of Kiyohime," a unique work created with photographer Maiko Miyagawa and released in 2015, portraying Kiyohime over four seasons on Sado Island.
Kiyohime standing in a freezing blizzard...
Reaching out towards the faint whispers of nature emerging in spring...
Basking in sparkling light refracted from the summer sea...
Stirring up the autumn leaves with the resonating beats of her taiko...
