Taikoz and the SSO
East meets West when drumming ensemble Taikoz performs with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
From the meditative sounds of the flute-like shakuhachi and shinobue to the thunder of the odaiko drums – Japanese instruments combine with a Western symphony orchestra in music that’s primal and extraordinary. In this concert, highlights from Britten’s Balinese ballet The Prince of the Pagodas provide the connecting thread, interwoven with Eastern soundscapes performed by Taikoz and their guests. Then sound realms will merge in a bold new work for Taikoz and the SSO by Lachlan Skipworth, an Australian composer deeply influenced by the music of Japan.
